The Biggest Motorcycle Advertising Mistakes | Part 2
Running successful digital advertising campaigns is about far more than creating an eye-catching advert and choosing the right audience. Even the best campaigns can underperform if the experience after the click doesn’t match the quality of the ad itself.
In Part 1 of this guide, we explored the biggest mistakes motorcycle brands make when setting up their advertising campaigns, from audience targeting and campaign structure to creative that fails to connect with riders. In Part 2, we’ll look at what happens next. We’ll explore how landing pages, meaningful performance metrics and ongoing optimisation turn clicks into inquiries, sales and long-term growth.
Sending Traffic to Weak Landing Pages
There is a very simple point to keep in mind here. Ultimately ads don't convert, landing pages convert.
If you’ve got your targeting right, configured your campaign settings competently and served engaged, interesting ads to your primed audience, the last thing you want is to send them to a badly conceptualised and executed landing page. In case you’re unsure, a landing page is a destination page on your website that you drive traffic/clicks/users to from your ad campaign.
What to avoid with landing pages:
- slow loading pages
- poor mobile experience
- confusing navigation
- no clear CTA
- too much information
- not enough information
Instead make sure your landing page does the following:
- loads quickly
- looks good on mobile AND desktop
- is creatively consistent with your ad
- concisely informs your customers of the offer, product details or service
- gives visitors a clear CTA (register now, get X% discount, click here, register here etc)

Measuring the Wrong Metrics
One of the most costly mistakes motorcycle brands make is focusing on metrics that look impressive in reports but contribute very little to actual business performance.
It is easy to become distracted by likes, impressions, reach, clicks and video views. These numbers can create the illusion of success while inquiries, test rides, newsletter sign-ups and sales fail to ramp up.
A campaign that generates 500,000 impressions and 15,000 clicks sounds impressive until you realise it delivered only three qualified inquiries. Unless your goal was simply awareness, better to get less visibility, 300 clicks and 20 conversions/inquiries.
Likewise, a video that receives 100,000 views may have been watched for only a few seconds by people with no intention of ever purchasing a motorcycle, helmet or riding jacket. Fewer views, a longer retention rate and 20 authentic, positive comments under the video would be a far better return on investment (ROI).
If you are launching a new model, those awareness metrics have value. If you are trying to generate test ride bookings, then lead generation metrics become far more important. If you are selling products directly through an ecommerce website, return on ad spend (ROAS), cost per acquisition (CPA) and conversion rate optimization (CRO) metrics should become key benchmarks.
The most successful motorcycle brands build reporting around meaningful business outcomes rather than vanity metrics. They understand the difference between attention and intent.
There are plenty of buzzwords and jargon used in the ad industry, but it’s important to know your metrics and have an easily viewable dashboard. We recommend Data Studio (formerly called Looker Studio) for building dashboards.
Depending on your business model you should be competently tracking, understanding and making decisions on the following metrics:
- Cost per click (CPC)
- Conversions (these might not just be sales of course)
- Average order value (AOV)
- COGS (Cost of goods sold)
- Conversion value
- Cost per acquisition (CPA)
- Return on ad spend (ROAS)
- Customer acquisition cost (CAC)
- Conversion rate optimization (CRO)
- Retention rates
- Campaign ROAS vs overall ROAS over a given period
- Lifetime value (LTV)
Another Common Mistake: Expecting Immediate Results
Perhaps the biggest misconception surrounding digital advertising is the belief that every campaign should generate instant results.
Sometimes this happens, sometimes it does not. Not every campaign will be a success, let alone an instant hit. Advertising platforms require data. Their AI systems and algorithms need time to learn which audiences respond best, which creative assets perform strongest and which customer segments are most likely to convert.
Many brands launch a campaign, see disappointing results after a few days and immediately start changing everything. New audiences are introduced, budgets get trimmed, creative is replaced and landing pages are modified – all too hastily. So the campaign never receives enough stable data to optimize effectively.
Advertising should be viewed as a process of testing, learning and refining. No-one wants to be too passive, but pragmatic patience, learning phases and gradual iterations are the way forward.
A dealership running test ride campaigns may discover one piece of creative outperforms another by 300%. An off-road dealer may learn that lead costs are significantly lower when targeting a particular riding interest. A specific campaign aimed at touring riders might reveal that a certain age group converts far more efficiently than expected.
These insights only emerge when campaigns are given sufficient time and budget to produce meaningful data. It often takes a bit of time (a few weeks) to discover these commercially valuable patterns.
Learn from the Mistakes of Others and Keep Pushing Ahead
Digital advertising remains one of the most effective growth tools available to motorcycle brands. However, success rarely comes from simply increasing budget and trying to rush things with a badly set-up campaign.
The brands achieving the strongest results are usually those that understand their audience, build campaigns correctly, create authentic content, iteratively optimize landing pages and measure the metrics that genuinely matter.
The technology continues to evolve. AI is changing audience targeting, creative delivery and search behavior at a remarkable pace. Yet the fundamentals of advertising and marketing remain surprisingly consistent.
The most successful motorcycle advertising campaigns don’t rely on a single great advert or a large budget. They combine the right strategy, the right audience, compelling creative, a seamless customer journey and continuous optimisation. When every stage of that process works together, advertising becomes a predictable driver of growth rather than a costly gamble.
